At Parkside Academy, we believe that pupils should master Art and Design through effective teaching of the key areas; making, generating ideas, formal elements, knowledge of artists and evaluation of their art.

Children at Parkside Academy are taught art and design through a progression of skills, building on their previous learning and ensuring progress is made. We encourage our pupils to enjoy and explore the work of different artists and to appreciate the enrichment that visual arts brings to life

We use ‘CUSP’ to plan our Art and Design curriculum as it fits with our teaching and learning approach of revisiting key areas and provides a clear progression of skills for the pupils.

Each year group covers units on the following areas:

  • Drawing
  • Painting
  • Sculpture
  • Printmaking

Art Resources

Children at Parkside are able to work in our designated Art room within school. They can work as whole class, and produce both individual and largescale art work.

We use sketchbooks to record our Art and Design work and it shows how the pupil’s skills are developing.

KS1 and KS2 children have the opportunity to attend weekly extra-curricular clubs.
