At Parkside Academy, we believe that a high-quality Religious Education will help pupils gain coherent knowledge and understanding, where they can articulate clearly and confidently their personal beliefs, ideas, values and experiences.

RE at Parkside, is taught through enquiry-based approach to teaching and learning. This should inspire and build each child’s ‘religious literacy’, helping them to understand the nature and diversity of religion and beliefs in the world in which they live and the relationships between different groups of society.

We use ‘Discovery RE’ to plan our curriculum as it is an enquiry-based approach to Religious Education focusing on one religion at a time.

Each enquiry has a big enquiry question and this is explored with a 4-step process

  • Engagement
  • Investigation
  • Evaluation
  • Expression

Enquiry Based Learning

Children’s critical thinking skills can be developed, their motivation to learn increased.

Children are free to make their own choices and decisions concerning religion and belief.

Their knowledge and understanding of, and empathy with people and their beliefs, religious or otherwise, will be enhanced.

Children are challenged and extended individually whilst skills of reflection and empathy are encouraged.
