Design and Technology

At Parkside, we believe that Design and Technology should be an inspiring, rigorous and practical subject. Using creativity and imagination, pupils design and make products that solve real and relevant problems within a variety of contexts, considering their own and others’ needs, wants and values

Our design and technology curriculum is progressive and builds upon skills previously taught. We ensure that each year group covers 4 design and technology units. The units develop the pupil’s skills, knowledge and vocabulary.

• Mechanism
• Cooking and Nutrition
• Textiles in KS1
• Systems in KS2.

Children at Parkside are able to use the facilities at our Trust school – Furness Academy to work in their purpose built children’s kitchen. This space enables all pupils to access high quality cooking facilities in a safe environment at their own height.

Both KS1 and KS2 children have the opportunity to attend an extra-curricular cookery club and produce a range of food and drinks.
