At Parkside Academy, we believe that pupils should master Music through effective teaching of the key areas; performing, listening, composing and developing an understanding of the history of music.

Children at Parkside Academy are taught music through a clear progression of skills, building on their previous learning and ensuring sustained musical development across each year group. We encourage our pupils to enjoy and explore a wide range of musical styles, cultures and traditions and to appreciate the enrichment that music brings to life.

Children at Parkside can work as a whole class and produce both individual and collaborative musical performances and compositions.

We use practical music-making, listening activities and notation to record and demonstrate how pupils’ musical skills are developing.

KS1 and KS2 children have the opportunity to attend weekly extra-curricular music clubs and performance opportunities.

We use our Music Overview to plan a curriculum that revisits key musical dimensions and provides a clear progression of knowledge and skills for all pupils.
