At Parkside Academy, Religious Education (RE) plays a vital role in nurturing respectful, reflective and open-minded citizens, who can articulate clearly and confidently their personal beliefs, ideas, values and experiences. Through a rich and engaging curriculum, we encourage pupils to explore different faiths, beliefs and worldviews, promoting understanding, tolerance and curiosity about the world around them.
RE at Parkside, is taught through enquiry-based approach to teaching and learning. This should inspire and build each child’s ‘religious literacy’, helping them to understand the nature and diversity of religion and beliefs in the world in which they live and the relationships between different groups of society.
We use Kapow RE and Worldview to plan our curriculum, as it provides an enquiry-based approach to Religious Education with a clear progression from EYFS to Year 6. Pupils explore key questions that encourage them to consider and compare different religious and non-religious worldviews. Learning is further enriched through visits to local places of worship and community settings, which help bring their learning to life. We also welcome guest speakers who share their personal experiences and beliefs, offering pupils meaningful, real-world insights that deepen their understanding and respect for diversity.
By the time they leave Parkside Academy, children will have developed a broad understanding of major world religions and non-religious worldviews, the confidence to express their own beliefs respectfully, and the empathy to value those of others. RE helps our pupils grow spiritually, morally and socially, preparing them to make a positive contribution to modern society.
